Pakistan’s Senate passes resolution to impose strict punishments over anti-army propaganda
ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s upper house of parliament passed a resolution, allowing strict punishment against people involved in the dissemination of propaganda against the Army and other security forces.
A handful of bills sailed in the house in the first session of 2024 and PPP Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi tabled a resolution, calling for 10 years imprisonment on those involved in malicious campaigns against the armed forces.
In the resolution, the PPP leader expressed deep concern over the ongoing mocking and hate-spewing campaigns on social media platforms, acknowledging sacrifices made by the country’s armed forces in the war against terror and for defence.
Senator called a strong army and robust agencies indispensable for defence specifically amid the hostile neighbourhood.
Several bills also sailed through the house including Wapda University Islamabad Bill, Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Bill, Criminal Laws (Amendment) Bill, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (Amendment) Bill, National Excellence Institute Bill, and Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
In the previous happenings, government arrested all culprits behind the negative propaganda against armed forces on social media. People who led nefarious campaign were held and during investigation it was revealed that Indian social accounts and people of a specific political party were also involved in the social media campaign.
