Sindh seeks 3-month delay in LB polls in Karachi

The Sindh government wants postponement of local government polls in Karachi by three more months, it emerged on Friday.

Sources said that the Sindh cabinet on Friday approved a proposal seeking the adjournment of the polls. The provincial government has also written to the Election Commission for the postponing the by-polls for three more months.


Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan will discuss the issue of LG elections in Karachi and Hyderabad on Nov. 15. PPP leaders will explain the government position to election commission. The Karachi administrator will brief the electoral body about the law and order situation in Karachi. Other political parties will also share their opinion about the issue.

The Sindh government argues that additional police personnel have been sent to Islamabad at the interior ministry’s request ahead of the PTI’s sit-in. According to a report, police personnel cannot leave the flood-affected areas. In view of the shortage of the police force, peaceful local government are not possible at this moment, the report added.

According to the Karachi police department, 37,000 police officials are required for security duties during LG polls.
