Malik Riaz’s non-bailable arrest warrants issued in £190 million scandal

LAHORE – Pakistani property tycoon Malik Riaz has continued to remain in hot waters since the arrest of Imran Khan, and now an accountability court has issued his non-bailable arrest warrants in the reference filed in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust Case.

The arrest warrants were also issued for Malik Riaz’s son Ali Ahmed Riaz, Farhat Shahzadi, a close friend of former first lady, and Imran Khan’s then accountability adviser Mirza Shahzad Akbar, and former aide Zulfi Bukhari.

The corruption reference against influential people alleges that Imran Khan and his wife raked in billions and land worth hundreds of kanals from Bahria Town Ltd for legalising an amount equal to Rs50 billion.

The anti-graft watchdog accused Imran Khan of illicit transfer of funds and mentioned that the accused denied sharing information on one pretext or another.

During Monday’s hearing, the Islamabad Accountability Judge issued a written order that noted that the former PTI chief was already in judicial lockup and was presented in court in a cipher case.

The court directed jail authorities to produce the former PM at the next hearing scheduled for December 6 (Wednesday).

Earlier this month, a civil court declared Shahzad Akbar proclaimed offender in the embezzlement case, and filed charges of fraud and other offences against former PM’s aide.
