Landmark Neurosurgery Center Inaugurated Under Health Corridor
Wuhan, China – At the prestigious 11th East Lake International Cerebrovascular Surgery Forum, a landmark achievement in China–Pakistan healthcare collaboration was realized with the official inauguration of the China–Pakistan Neurosurgery Joint Training and Medical Tourism Center. The initiative is a collaborative effort between Wuhan University Zhongnan Hospital, the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences (PINS), and the China Pakistan Medical Association (CPMA), aimed at strengthening neurosurgical capacity, advancing medical education, and promoting medical tourism between the two countries.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by distinguished leaders and experts from both nations, including Professor Chen Jiangcao, Chairman of the Neurosurgery Department at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University; Professor Asif Bashir, Executive Director, Dean, and President of the Pakistan Society of Neurosurgeons (PSN); and Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz, President of the China Pakistan Medical Association. The ceremony was also graced by senior officials from the Hubei Provincial Government and First Secretary Mr. Muhammad Uzair from the Embassy of Pakistan in China.
Speaking at the occasion, Professor Chen Jiangcao described the establishment of the Joint Center as a “historic milestone” in China–Pakistan neurosurgical cooperation. He emphasized that this initiative marks the beginning of a new era in patient care, where knowledge exchange, joint research, and advanced surgical training will contribute to improved outcomes and innovation in cerebrovascular and neurosurgical treatment.
Professor Asif Bashir highlighted the broader strategic importance of the initiative, stating that the Joint Center would open new horizons for the China–Pakistan partnership under the Belt and Road framework. He noted that enhanced collaboration in neurosurgery and healthcare delivery will not only elevate clinical standards but also position both countries as leaders in regional and global healthcare services.
In his remarks, Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz underscored the significance of the initiative as a realization of proposals put forward by the China Pakistan Medical Association during the January 2026 Wuhan Forum. He stated that the launch of both the Joint Training Center and the Medical Tourism Center represents a major step forward in operationalizing the China–Pakistan Health Corridor, fostering deeper institutional linkages, and creating opportunities for patient mobility, professional training, and healthcare investment.
First Secretary Mr. Muhammad Uzair reaffirmed the strong support of the Embassy of Pakistan in China for such collaborative initiatives. He emphasized that the Embassy remains committed to facilitating cooperation at all levels and will continue to provide assistance to ensure the success and sustainability of joint healthcare programs between the two countries.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University and the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences. The MoU was signed by Professor Chen Jiangcao and Professor Asif Bashir, laying the foundation for structured collaboration in clinical training, academic exchange, joint research, and patient care services.
The China–Pakistan Neurosurgery Joint Training and Medical Tourism Center is expected to serve as a flagship model for bilateral healthcare cooperation, contributing to capacity building, innovation, and the advancement of neurosurgical excellence. This initiative reinforces the enduring friendship between China and Pakistan and reflects a shared commitment to improving healthcare outcomes for the people of both nations and beyond.
